Some paintings take shape from a photograph. Others begin with a question.
As I worked on this one, I kept thinking about what it means to call a place homeāeven knowing that home can be temporary. I wanted to paint this scene with respect, not as a romanticized image, but as a quiet moment of reflection. The title, Before the Fire Grows Cold, is my way of honoring the idea that every home represents family, community, stories, and another day lived together beneath the same sky.
I hope this painting encourages us to remember that the landscapes we admire today have long histories and have been home to generations of Native peoples whose cultures and traditions continue today.
Thank you for following along as I continue to learn and grow with every painting.
